Solar power storage systems allow for the storage of unneeded excess electricity from solar panels. Batteries are the main storing unit and can be lithium-ion or lead-acid. The performance of the batteries is controlled by advanced battery management systems (BMS) which monitor charging, discharging, and cell health. Time-of-use shifting is made possible with solar power storage as users are able to utilize stored energy during low solar generation periods, thus shifting usage to benefit from favorable electricity rates. Furthermore, these systems improve self-consumption capability, backup power during outages, and solar reliability.
